The bridges, U-27 and U-28 on Bruzgul Road, are located over the Fishkill Creek near the intersection with Clove Valley Road. They are being replaced due to concerns regarding structural deterioration and motorist safety.

The project includes the demolition of the current bridges as well as the construction of newer, wider bridges. The road between the bridges will also be widened to accommodate the addition of shoulders and improve roadway safety.

Bruzgul Road will close starting on or around Monday, May 20. The closure will occur affect an estimated three-tenths of a mile west of the Clove Valley Road intersection. A detour will be posted to direct traffic along Shaughnessy Road and Clove Valley Road.

Officials say the work is expected to be completed, with the new bridges open and both lanes of traffic flowing, by December of 2019. Final site restoration has an anticipated completion time of Spring 2020.

The total cost of the project is estimated at $2.5 million, which includes construction and inspection services. Motorists should plan for additional time and exercise extra caution when traveling near the construction site, officials say.

“We are committed to building for our future and continue to invest wisely in our county’s bridge and highway infrastructure,” said Dutchess County Executive Marc Molinaro. “These bridge projects on Bruzgul Road will ensure the long-term safety and viability of this roadway. Our highway and bridge projects are a critical part of our capital project investments, as well-maintained roads and bridges enhance quality of life for our residents and help support our local economy.”
